August Favourites 2014

This month I have have been trying out some new products and rediscovering some of my makeup I've owned for a while. I have also included some random things I've been loving as well, so here are my August favourites!

My first favourite is my MAC lip pencil in Subculture which is a dusky pink nude. At the minute every time I am wearing a nude lip I will be wearing this either to line my lips and fill in with a nude lipstick or I will fill in my lips with the pencil and put a lip balm or gloss on top.

When I was in America recently in the holidays I picked up the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and I literally haven't picked up another brow product since! I always used to see everybody rave about it but couldn't purchase it here in the UK and didn't want to purchase it offline because I had no idea what shade to get! But now I have it, I have fallen completely in love with it! If you want natural, full eye brows this is the product to buy.

I have also been using my MAC eye shadows more recently and always reach for my palette now. Since you can make up your own palette all the shades I own are ones that I love. I've also been using the shadows I don't normally gravitate to as well and have created many different looks for any occasion!

This month my Topshop Magic Liner ran out and since I have to travel quite far to my nearest Topshop I popped into my local Boots and picked up L'Oreal's Superliner. It is just as good as my Topshop Magic Liner which I love and the slim nib makes it really easy to apply a thin line as close to my lash line as possible which is what I wear daily.

The Vamps album 'Meet the Vamps' has been playing from my phone constantly this month as I've been preparing myself for when I go see them next month eek! I'm so excited:) I love all of the songs on the album and my personal favourites are High Hopes, Another World and Move My Way.

In the month of August I also discovered Green Tea and am now completely obsessed! I've been told it is very cleansing and good for you which is the reason I originally picked it up but after trying it I loved the taste and how refreshing it is.

Thank you for reading and let me know some of your favourites in a comment below:)

Top 5 Back to School Makeup Essentials

Since some people have already started back at school or are about to start back I thought I would do a Back to School blog post:) Since i'm a makeup fanatic this blog is going to be about the makeup products I think are suitable and essential for school! For school I don't wear anything apart from mascara, eyeliner and a tad of lip gloss but I know quite a lot of people also wear foundation, concealer, eyebrow products etc etc, so I will include a few I think are suitable and long lasting since your makeup is on for 6 hours plus and you don't want it to start to slip and slide! Enjoy!

The first product I think is essential for school is a waterproof mascara because I find waterproof mascaras are more smudge proof and will hold the curl for longer than a regular mascara. You can buy most mascaras from the drugstore in waterproof version but a couple of my favourites are Maybelline The Falsies waterproof and Maybelline Falsies Big Eyes waterproof.

If you are wearing face makeup ie foundation or concealer make sure you set it with powder so it doesn't wear off throughout the day.My favourite powder is Rimmel Stay Matte or Rimmel Clear Complexion. Lightly sweep it over your skin to set your face makeup, so you don't end up looking powdery or cakey.

For school I would recommend just a lip balm or a teeny bit of gloss rather than a lipstick because at school you don't want to be constantly topping up your lip colour, and most lipsticks will fade throughout the day especially at lunch/break when you are eating. So any of your favourite lip glosses or balms will do the trick nicely:)

If you are wearing face makeup you want long lasting products that will hopefully keep you looking fresher for longer than normal foundations and concealers. I recommend MAC pro longwear foundation along with the pro longwear concealer. Finish your face with some powder and your makeup will last longer than if you were wearing products that aren't designed to be worn for a long period of time.

This last product won't be everybody's cup of tea and you don't have to do this for school but if you would like your skin to look fresher and more awake you could swipe a tiny amount of highlighter on your cheekbones giving your skin a glow but this is totally up to you!

Thank you for reading and I hope going back to school will go smoothly for you all!

OOTD: Formal Party

Yesterday my family and I went to a close family friends party celebrating many things in their family. The party was very formal with all the ladies in evening dresses and the men in kilts and suits! There was a band, dancing, food, amazing decorations, it really was a well planned night. My family and I all had a great night and since I don't have many occasions to get all dolled-up I thought I would show you what I wore:)

My dress was a floor length, dark blue evening dress with jewel embellishment from Quiz Clothing (You may not be able to still buy it as I bought it for a formal event in 2012 and reused it yesterday since I had only worn it once!) I very rarely wear dresses though so I thought I would feel a bit over dressed and uncomfortable but I didn't at all, I really enjoyed wearing this dress and wish I had more occasions to wear it to! Even though you cant see my shoes I wore simple all black wedges, which weren't too tall considering the party was on for nearly 6 hours, and I didn't want to be sitting in the corner in pain because of my shoes!! I'm also quite tall and I'm not yet confident being over 6ft in heels!

The day before the party I went and got my nails done, I got acrylic extensions that are filed in a 'Coffin' shape with a pale blue colour, but in some lights it has a slightly grey undertone which I love:) I have had acrylics once before and I loved them. I would probably have them on all the time if they weren't so pricey to maintain and if I didn't swim multiple times a week because I don't think you're meant to keep them submerged in water for over an hour! They might not be everybody's cup of tea but I love them and maybe one day I'll be able to have them on most of the time.

For my makeup I used a pale gold eye shadow all over the lid with a darker gold in the outer corner and wore a pinky nude (Faux by MAC) on my lips.

Thank you for reading I'm really enjoying writing these blogs and hopefully will be writing so many more in years to come:)

The Beauty Blogger Tag

I am currently sitting with an ice pack on my knee from a former injury with nothing to do so why not write a blog post? I found 15 beauty related questions so this blog is going to be me answering all things beauty:)

1. Do you remember your first makeup item?
Yes, I'm pretty sure it was Rimmel Clear Complexion powder.

2. What kind of coverage do you want in foundation?
Normally light or medium, I would only wear a full coverage foundation to a formal event or special occasion.

3. Favourite high end brand?
MAC, I just love all of the products I have purchased, my favourites being my eye shadows and lipsticks.

4. What cosmetic brands have you always wanted to try but still haven't?
There are so many brands I haven't tried I would love to try NARS, Too Faced, Chanel and Anastasia.

5. Favourite drugstore brand?
Maybelline, their mascaras and lip products are, in my opinion, the best in the drugstore and their packaging is always so sleek and colourful:)

6 .Do you wear fake eyelashes?
No I don't, I am very interested to start learning how to apply lashes and to play around with my looks using them though and look forward to wearing them in the future!

7. Is there any kind of makeup you can't leave the house without?
No I can leave the house without makeup. Most of the time I just wear mascara and eyeliner or I leave the house bare faced.

8. What is your most cherished beauty product?
Probably my MAC eye shadows as I just think they look beautiful on the eye or just sitting in the palette on the side! They really are amazing to me I love the colours and the finishes of them all.

9. How often do you shop for makeup? Here and there or get lots of goodies at once?
Every now and again I will pick up the odd product but I am most likely to write a list of all the new products I would like to try and save up the money before going to buy them all at once:)

10. What type of product do you buy the most?
LIP PRODUCTS! I am definitely a lip product kinda gal! I am a massive fan of wearing a variety of different colours on my lips. I can go from wearing a nude to rocking a purple lip and in the autumn I will mostly wear quite vampy and dark lip colours. I use my lip products to have fun with my makeup.

11. Which celebrity always has great makeup?
Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner. Every time I watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians Khloe's makeup is flawless and she is always wearing a different look which I love. Kylie tends to wear the same makeup daily but her signature winged liner, bronzed skin with a matte nude pink lip is stunning. I definitely wouldn't mind being able to do their makeup one day!

12. Favourite beauty gurus?
Bloggers- Zoella, Tanya Burr, Sprinkle Of Glitter and Idle Lane
YouTubers- Nicole Guerriero, Carli Bybel, MakeUpByMandy24 and velvetgh0st

13. What do you apply first, concealer or foundation?
Foundation, then concealer but I always apply concealer to highlight my face and under eyes.

14. Do you ever consider doing makeup classes?
YES! I think I apply my makeup pretty nicely but there is definitely room for improvement! Taking classes would give me an opportunity to learn some new tips and tricks and enable me to apply my makeup better then I do now. I also see myself in the future having a career involving makeup and fashion so I would need to take classes to learn how to do makeup on every different skin tone, face shape, eye shape, age etc rather than just on my face.

15. What do you love about makeup?
I love how you can create a look for any occasion and how I feel when I apply it to myself. I automatically feel more confident when I have spent time on my makeup. I just have so much fun applying my makeup and creating new looks. I am also one of those girls who will sit down and just go crazy with my makeup, I will never wear them in public I just love sitting down and creating an extravagant look you see walking down runways. Overall in my mind makeup is beautiful, my way to be creative and to show my personality.

Must-Have Monday - Beauty

Since the day I've decided to write my first ever blog post (eek!) is a Monday, I had an idea of a 'Must-Have Monday' series I will do every week. This weeks topic is just must-haves in beauty, in the future I may narrow it down to must-have lipsticks or must-have mascaras etc but today I just decided to keep it beauty as a whole. I may also do must-haves in fashion and show you my favourite pieces to wear:)! So I hope you enjoy my first blog and I am very much looking forward to my future posts and being an internet person aha!

MAC face and body foundation and a beauty blender are definitely must-haves if you are wanting flawless looking skin. I wouldn't class face and body as full coverage but you can build it up to medium coverage or use a small amount of it when you pop out to the shops and don't want to leave the house completely bare but you still want a little coverage. Using this foundation and the beauty blender for me is a complete dream as I find the beauty blender blends in the foundation smoothly and it absorbs excess product so you will never end up looking cakey.

My next must-haves are my lip products that I don't think a makeup collection is complete without, a nude shade, a classic red and of course a lip balm so your lips are always moisturized and never damaged. The lip balm I always reach to use is The Body Shop's Born Lippy in Raspberry and I can trust it to do its job and always leave me with soft, moisturized lips. My go-to nude is Shanghai Spice by MAC as it compliments my fair skin tone and my ginger hair perfectly. The classic red must-have I have chosen is Ruby Woo by MAC it has a matte finish which is very retro and even though it may look a bit harsh on my fair skin tone if I hit my cheek bones and high points of my face with some bronzer I am good to go! I am so glad I bought it as every time I put it on it makes me feel as if I'm about to walk the red carpet, so when your'e having a bad day swipe this on (well it might take longer than just a swipe, you don't want this bad boy on your skin...) and you'll instantly feel glamorous.

The Body Shops Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder comes in a variety of shades including fair so therefore it is very handy for me! It is a matte powder which is great for contouring and creating natural shadow on the face. I use it for sculpting my cheek bones and contouring most of the time and I'm so glad I finally found a bronzing powder which isn't red or orange and is perfect for my skin tone.

Here is my favourite eye shadow palette, the Naked 2 by Urban Decay which I love because with its variety of light and dark colors and it's matte and shimmery shades you can create countless eye shadow looks for any occasion. You could sweep one of the light colours over the lid apply mascara and you are good to go or you could build up and blend the darker colors for a full night time smokey eye, the decision is up to you! I would recommend if you are using this palette to apply your shadow before your face makeup, as the shadows do have a bit of fallout which could ruin your concealer and flawless base! I'm really excited for Autumn as that is when I start to wear darker shadows and show this palette some love daily.

The They're Real by Benefit is something every person who uses makeup should own. Even if you only wear a tiny amount of makeup this mascara should be the one you are using! From the day I first bought this mascara I haven't found anything that lives up to it. If you are put off by the price tag don't be, you will fall in love instantly and the money spent on it will be forgotten immediately. It has a plastic wand which coats every lash evenly and your lashes are soooo long you, wouldn't believe a mascara could work such wonders!

My last 'Must-Haves' are my Real Techniques brushes. For a drugstore price they are in my opinion the best brushes you can find it high street stores. They blend makeup effortlessly and are really good quality. After every wash they are still as soft and as good as they were before. I use them daily and I couldn't be happier with the results after using them:)

So that is my first blog post and 'Must-Have Monday' complete and I hope you enjoyed reading and look forward to my next post:) Hopefully you learnt a bit about some products and if you were debating whether or not to buy something I have helped in your decision.

Ellie :)
